Wisconsin National Guard Tuition Grant
What is the Guard Grant?
The Wisconsin National Guard Tuition Grant is a grant program for enlisted members of the Wisconsin National Guard. Students may receive a grant that covers up to 100% of in-state tuition (not including segregated fees) while earning their first bachelors degree. You must remain in good standing with the National Guard (pass fitness tests, attend scheduled drills, etc.) to use the benefit. If you separate (get out or ETS) before the end of the term, you will not receive a reimbursement.
This benefit can be used simultaneously with federal education benefits such as partial Post 9/11 GI Bill® , the Montgomery GI Bill® – Selected Reserve, or Dependents’ Educational Assistance.
You can find qualifying schools and contact information for the Grants Specialist at the link below.
Getting Started
Applying
A new application must be submitted to the Department of Military Affairs (DMA) every semester. UVS can no longer accept paper applications! Tuition grant users must apply through the online application portal on the DMA’s website, linked below. Applications are due to the Department of Military Affairs no earlier than 90 days before an academic term begins and no later than 90 days after an academic term ends.
Next Steps
- Apply for other education benefits you intend to use.
- Contact University Veteran Services. If you start classes in less than 90 days, let us know you intend to use benefits (even if you’re waiting on approval).
- Complete a FAFSA®. You can learn more about using traditional forms of financial aid on our financial aid & education benefits page.
- Confirm your benefits. You’ll complete this process every semester to let us know you’d like to use your education benefits.
