United States Air Force | Army National Guard
During my UW junior year, I was selected as “Number ONE” in the December 1969 Vietnam era draft lottery. I knew military service was in my future upon graduation. Wanting to be in control of that future, I enlisted in the Air Force shortly before graduation in 1971. I served as public affairs specialist at McGuire Air Force Base, NJ.
In public affairs, I had the opportunity to meet some interesting people including Bob Hope and a former Miss Wisconsin! My most memorable military experience was serving as a national press liaison during the arrival of a large group of former Vietnam POW’s at McGuire AFB. After completing my active duty commitment, I served four more years with the WI Air National Guard at Truax Field, Madison.
Prior to retirement, I worked as a risk management and loss prevention professional in the commercial insurance industry for over 35 years. After a 20 year absence from WI, my wife and I returned to our home state in 2014. We currently live in Grafton.
